Can four young lawbreakers outsmart London’s most powerful gangster?
Scope is not your average teenager. A self-described criminal nerd, she spends most of her time cleaning up forensic messes and faking evidence. When you work for Move-Easy, London’s most powerful thug, life is never boring.
But WatchWorld owns the city now, and running an illegal empire is no easy feat. Cameras, drones, and heat sensors line the streets and stalk the skies while Safe-Guards, the part-human, part-robot police, patrol the city and enter homes with impunity.
Everyone knows that crossing Move-Easy means certain and painful death. So when he sends Scope and several other rat runners—young outlaws who evade detection by traveling through the city’s Voids—to track down one of Easy’s old enemies, they know they have no choice. But what if the target is innocent? Can Scope spoil the kill, or will doing so make her Easy’s next mark?

In the future, England has watchers everywhere. Adults have given up almost all of their privacy to stay safe. But criminals are still out there. They hide in those few areas where there are no cameras. They use children under sixteen years old because they aren't watched quite as much. They call them rat runners and use they to mainly run messages and errands. Three of these rat runners have been picked to help track down a father and son. Knowing the fates that await this unlucky duo, the three rat runners are stuck between going against the crime boss and helping to kill them. This short story is intended as an introduction to the world of the rat runners. It works great. I found both the characters and the world interesting. I want to know more about them. I liked the caper aspect. A well thought out plan, whether legal or not, always makes for a good story. I like that the rat runners are characters that have obvious good and bad sides because that will also make for interesting reading.
This mix of crime, sci-fi, and suspense with plenty of action in a fast paced story is the perfect fun read.

Spoil the Kill eBook Oisín McGann Reviews
A fast actionr fast moving, comical at times with suspense wrapped up in a little red bow.
This was an enjoyable, quick read. It would've been better if there would have been tie for a little more character and plot development, but for a short novella, that took only a few hours to read, it was pretty good.
This novella is an introduction to the world of McGann's 'Rat Runners'. As such we are given a glimpse of the world and it's inhabitants, with plenty of room to amplify both in the book. The story here is interesting on it's own and well written.
I bought this book as part of a collection I am making to interest my son in reading. This book should do it. I read the books I select for my son first, then recommend them to him. He is now reading the book and I look forward to discussing it with him. Despite knowledge revealed about underground, criminal activities, the writing describes some present day realities (I don't know about that orange skin, though) while not using language that would be inappropriate for the YA genre.
Scope, Manikin and FX are rat-runners, underage kids manipulated by the boss, Move-easy, to commit a variety of illegal actions. Because the rat-runners are underage, adult legal sanctions are not a threat to them. But this time Move-easy wants someone found and eliminated, a course of action the rat-runners are not comfortable with. How will this work out? That is why my son is reading the book (I won't tell him).
